Why is Charlie Manual the Phillies Manager ?

I honestly believe Ed Wade and Ruben Amaro promised Jim Thome if Larry Bowa was ever fired, Charlie Manual would be the next Phillies Skipper. That was a "sweetner" to the Thome free agency signing back in late 2002.
