Gillick - How much more rope do we give him ?

Does Pat Gillick really know what he's doing ? His short tenure as Phillies GM has been less than stellar. Let's review some of his deals in 2006.

1) Signed Ryan Franklin as a Free agent - Status : Franklin was released this week after a 1-5 record and close to a 5.00 ERA.
2) Signed Alex Gonzalez from Tampa Bay as a free agent - Status : Retired from the Phillies hitting .100
3) Signed Abraham Nunez to a free agent deal. - Status : Hitting a whopping .160. Nunez will now assume the everyday third baseman slot due to the recent David Bell trade.
4) Traded Jim Thome for Aaron Rowand. Status : Rowand is the everyday center fielder. He is hitting .256 with 10 hrs. Although Thome wasn't going to fit into the Phils' plans for 2006, I'd have to say Rowand has been below average in 2006.
5) Signed backup catcher Sal Fassano - Status : The Phils traded him to the Yankees.
6) Acquired David Delucci from the Rangers for Vincente Padilla. Delucci has languished on the bench most of the year behind the slumping Pat Burrell. Padila has won 10 games for the Rangers.
7) He trades Bobby Abreu and Cory Lidle to the Yankees for 5 minor leaguers.

Let's hope things improve soon. Gillick's track record to date is horrible.

You can't hold Gillick accountable for Ed Wade's mistakes.
He loosened up some dollars that were almost impossible to get rid of.
He walked into a mess but didn't know it.
