During Wednesday's hearing on Capitol Hill, it seemed like members of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform took turns asking the same questions to Roger Clemens and Brian McNamee. In a classic "he said, she said" scenario, Clemens came off less believable than McNamee and may now face potential witness tampering charges related to his former nanny, who many think was "coached" by Clemens prior to him providing her name to the committee. At minimum, he will also deal with further scrutiny on Andy Pettite's claim that he and Roger spoke of HGH use. Clemens has denied that.
As the day ended, it seems that Clemen's legacy may have been irrevocably ruined. His Legal Team, specifically Rusty Harden and Lanny Breuer, never should have let Clemens deny his use of steroids and HGH in public. In retrospect, Clemens should have pulled a Mark McGwire and not commented on any of the allegations in the Mitchell report.....He should have used the the proverbial "no comment" response !
In the court of public opinion, Clemens is definitely guilty. In the end, it was Roger Clemens' "Texas-size" ego that will be his demise.
The next question will be - "Will he make the Hall-of-Fame" ?
