Coach Jim Calhoun reinstated sophomore Jerome Dyson who had been suspended for the past 9 games due to his 2nd incident with illegal drugs. In early February, Dyson and fellow sophomore teammate Doug Wiggins were found with a bottle of cognac and a bottle of vodka in Wiggins' car. Marijuana was also found on the scene and neither of the players had a drivers license. Police did not charge either player.
Not sure why, because it was apparent that not only were the student-athletes breaking team and school rules, but also the laws of the state of Connecticut.
It is unclear if the police on the scene were Husky season ticket holders or not !
After Saturday’s tough loss to Villanova, I’m sure Calhoun figured he could use Dyson’s team leading 14 ppg average and reinstated him just in time for the Big East tournament. UConn is already a lock for an at-large bid even if they falter in the conference tournament.
Calhoun and UConn need to step up and show that taking personal responsibility for illegal behavior is more important than making the NCAA Big Dance.
Who am I kidding ? No wonder Jim Calhoun is the highest paid Connecticut State employee. He’s a winner, right ? At least on the court.
