LaSalle's Basketball Program is Fading Fast

The LaSalle Explorers lost a 3rd straight game to a lesser opponent from a weaker Division I conference last night. Towson State came into Philadelphia with a 3-7 record and proceeded to beat LaSalle 93-90 in OT.

After losing to Bucknell and Rider, the Explorers should have been overly prepared and motivated to take out their frustration on Towson. No such luck.

Coach John Giannini's team is a horrible defensive team. They simply can't defend and they allow lesser teams to shoot very high percentages from the floor. Bucknell (55%), Rider (49%) and Towson (55%) all had easy times scoring against the inept Explorer defense.

Giannini needs to dramatically improve his game day coaching. Aaric Murray continues to foul out of games and Giannini has not taken any actions to alleviate that. How about moving Murray out on a wing or at the top of the key to defend instead of the middle where 90% of the action (and potential fouls are)? Just a thought, John.

A once promising season has now turned sour. I hate to say this, but if LaSalle has another bad showing in Atlantic-10 conference play, they should consider moving into a less competitive conference like the MAAC or CAA.

It has been 19 years since the Explorers made it into post season play, and from the look of it, it should hit 20 years soon.
