Rafael Palmeiro - Say it 'aint so !

569 Home Runs......3018 hits......a sure ticket to Baseball's Hall of Fame ? I don't think so. Rafael Palmeiro was one of baseball's classiest players. His smooth, effortless swing sustained him for 20 years in the major leagues.

Monday's announcement that he had tested positive for steroids devastated the baseball world. That fact that just a few months ago (March) he shook his finger at the U.S. Congress and said "I never took steroids....", only makes matters worse.

Who can believe him or Bonds, or Sosa or McGwire. There is no credibility for these players anymore.

When the time comes in 5, 6, 7 years to vote for Hall of Fame inductees, I hope the Baseball writers of America send a message to these "cheaters" and bypass them. Their Herculean home run numbers were enhanced by "illegal" drugs. They all had total disregard for the sanctity of the game. Money, fame, adulation ? Why ?

Monday was a sad day for baseball. I bet Babe Ruth and Jimmy Foxx and Mel Ott are rolling over in their graves !
