Mo Cheeks - NBA Coach of the Year

The Philadelphia 76ers have clinched a playoff spot with 7 games remaining in the regular season. This team was forecasted to win 20 games by the so-called basketball experts. Mo Cheeks has quietly led this team out of the lower echelon NBA teams and into the top 12 or 15 teams in the league.

The 76ers are one of the youngest teams in the NBA. Led by Andre Iguodala, the Sixers play an up-tempo game and are a true "team". For the past 10 years, the Sixers game was built solely around Allen Iverson. Since AI's departure, Philadelphia has been able to showcase the talents of Iguodala, along with other young and coming players, like Lou Williams and rookie, Thaddeus Young.

It's been a long time since we have been talking about professional basketball in April here in Philadelphia. The 76ers could make some noise in the playoffs this year, but even if they're eliminated early, the team has a very bright future. With expiring contracts from Chris Webber, Aaron McKie, they will free up a large amount of cap space allowing them to sign a high-end free agent in the offseason.

By adding a veteran superstar to this team of young talent, the 76ers should be a perennial playoff team for the next 5 years.

Mo Cheeks should capture some votes for the NBA coach of the year, but will most likely finish 2nd to Byron Scott from New Orleans.
