The Phils will Edge the Mets

The Phillies acquisition of Joe Blanton indicates that they are a serious contender this season. The Mets have stayed pat and not added another pitcher, which may prove to be bad for them.

Pedro Martinez is hurt yet again. I had predicted he'd be on the DL in 2008, and now it may be twice in one year. I'm still not convinced Pelfrey is for real and Oliver Perez is too inconsistent.

Other than Billy Wagner, the Mets bullpen is a bit suspect too. I wouldn't count on Heilman or Schoenweiss when the game is on the line !

The Phillies starting rotation (Hamels, Moyer, Kendrick, Blanton and probably Myers again) should be enough to contend till the end.

I'd still like the Phils to acquire another right handed bat off the bench and possibly a left hander in the bullpen (which will be hard).

Nevertheless, I said this in April and I still believe it. Overall, the Phillies team is still better than the Mets

You are dead on Philly Sports Fan! I totally agree that the Phils are serious contenders this season. Too bad Ol' Charlie doesn't know how to manage 'em! Hopefully the weight of Manuel doesn't hold 'em back, and they can pull a few more victories that could put them comfortably into first place.
