Eagles' Jim Johnson was a Football Genius

Jim Johnson, long time Defensive Coordinator for the Eagles died today at the age of 68. He had been battling cancer.

Johnson was simply one of the NFL's greatest defensive coordinators in the past 20 years. His Eagles' defenses ranked in the top of most categories since his arrival in 2001.

Many assistant coaches in the NFL seem to aspire to be Head coaches. Johnson never did. Instead he focused on being one of the best Defensive minds in the NFL. He produced 26 pro-bowlers, including a little known safety from Clemson, drafted in the 2nd round of the 1996 draft named Brian Dawkins. B-Dawk is a 6 time pro bowler who may soon be heading to Canton, thanks to Jim Johnson.

Johnson's defensive schemes were vast and when the Eagles defensive was outguessing the opponents offensive, it was a thing of beauty.

Johnson will be missed and the Eagles defense now led by new Coordinator Sean McDermott (a Johnson protege) will never be the same.

RIP Jim and keep on blitzing !
