Aaron Rowand may have saved the Phillies season last night with his spectacular first inning catch against the division rival, NY Mets. With the bases loaded, Rowand made a "Willie Mays over the shoulder grab" then ran face first right into the fence, breaking his nose on the play.
Mets manager Willie Randolph called the catch one of the best he's ever seen.
"You see great catches all the time, but to see a guy sacrifice his body like that made it even greater," he said.
Rowand may have endeared himself to the Philadelphia fans for life. This hard nose style is reminiscent of Pete Rose and Lenny Dykstra, two of Philly's all-time favorites.
By the way, the Phils won the game 2-0 and have swept 4 straight series.
