Phillies 2009 decisions :

Pat Burrell - He's 32 and will want at least a 3 year deal from the Phillies. He is the slowest non-pitcher in the NL and is a very streaky player. I would not sign Pat and look for a replacement in the free-agent market. Names that come to mind are Mike Cameron or Rocco Baldelli.

Ryan Madsen and Scott Eyre. Both of these set up men were valuable down the stretch for the Phillies and should be re-signed.

Jamie Moyer - This is a tough one. He'll be 46 next year and although was 16-7 in 2008, he won't duplicate that in 2009. If the Phils don't sign him, they'll have a public relations issue. I would not count on Moyer to be a major contributor in 2009.

Cole Hamels - Lock him up to a multi-year deal. Although he is arbitration eligible, the Phillies should sign him to a long term contract. He's the best "young" lefty in the game.

Ryan Howard - Let him go to arbitration again and see how 2009 goes. Although he's the game's biggest threat, his strikeouts and defense hurt the team. I would not sign him to a long term deal.

Chris Coste - Although it saddens me to say, I'd let him go. It's time to bring up Lou Marson as the backup catcher.

Shane Victorino - Give him a 2 year deal similar to other mid-tier players. He only made $460,000 this past year and deserves a few million a year.

Matt Stairs - Thanks for the exciting and historic HR in the NLCS, but at 41, I would not sign him.

So Taguchi - Dump him.
Tom Gordon - Dump him.

The constant sh*tting on Howard is going to come back and bite the Phils in the butt.
