Philadelphia's trade of Jason Michaels for Arthur Rhodes is a VERY good deal for the Phillies. Rhodes is the Setup Man they need for Flash Gordon. The fact that he is left handed is even better. The only lefty in the Phil's pen is Rheal Cormier. He is on the tail end of his career.
Rhodes was 3-1 last year with a stellar 2.08 ERA. Michaels would have been lucky to get 200 ABs with the Phils, so to get a setup man for a reserve Outfielder was a steal for Pat Gillick.
On paper, Gillick did good on this one.
