Brad Lidge will Make or Break the Phillies

If you had to pick one player on the Phillies or even in the National League East that will determine the success of his team in 2008, you'd have to select Phillies new closer, Brad Lidge.

The Phillies lineup is solid, maybe the best in the National League. Their Starting pitching, particularly at the top of the rotation (Hamels and Meyers) is very good. If Lidge returns to his form of 2005 (42 Saves), the Phillies should win the NL East. However, if Lidge stuggles at Citizens Bank Park, the impatient Phillies fans will quickly turn on him.

Houston has a much more laid back fan base, and I doubt Lidge ever felt the pressure there that he may feel in Philadelphia.

The Phillies will need Lidge to meet their expectations this year or they will be scrambling for alternatives. I seriously doubt the Phillies fans will want to see Flash Gordon as their closer again !

Brad - Welcome to Philadelphia, we're glad you're here......and by the way, no blown saves please !

Horrible news that Lidge broke down on the very first pitch he threw.....on the bright side, the barf-bag industry is gearing up production on the expectation Flash Gordon will be bringing his iron constitution to the closer-role. To paraphrase Tug McGraw...."Ya Gotta Not Heave".

At least Gorden doesn't get in taxi cab accidents (Duaner Sanchez). He drives his own car.
