76ers Making a Run

The 76ers have won 7 straight games to reach the .500 level (20-20). Yes, that is the epitome of mediocrity, however, in the NBA that will assure a playoff spot in the Eastern conference.

The Sixers have won 7 straight without Elton Brand, who is still nursing a shoulder injury. Unlike the Boston Celtics who depend heavily on their 3 all-star veterans (Garnett, Pierce and Allen), the 76ers have a combination of youth and experience this season.

Thaddeus Young and Lou Williams have emerged as two of the bright young players in the NBA. Teamed with veteran point guard Andre Miller and their established star, Andre Iguodola, the Sixers are emerging as a team you may not want to meet in the playoffs.

I was a Maurice Cheeks fan and was sorry to see him go. However, new coach, Tony DiLeo has this team playing relaxed and with a new found confidence.

To make a serious run in the playoffs, the 76ers need Brand to stay healthy and integrate himself into the offense seamlessly.

In addition, the Sixers should consider trading Samuel Dalembert who has not been a major factor in the 76ers recent success. His trade value is probably pretty high, since there are not many centers in the NBA that can run the floor like him and block shots.

I'd like to see a 76ers / Celtics match up in the playoffs. Who knows, the C's are getting old and may run out of gas against the youthful 76ers squad.
