It's time for the Phillies to dump Lidge as their Closer

It's time for the Phillies to remove Brad Lidge as their closer. He has blown 2 saves this weekend so far, giving him 8 for the season. That leads the majors.

If Lidge had executed Saves in 1/2 those games, the Phillies would have a 9 game lead in the National League East. Instead, they are battling the Marlins and Braves who have both crept back in the division race.

Lidge has become the Jose Mesa of 2009. Remember when Mesa was the Phillies closer ? He gave you a heart attack every outing. Lidge has no confidence and simply can't get hitters out anymore.

Possible replacements could be JC Romero (when he returns from the DL), Ryan Madson, or perhaps Brett Myers.

It's obvious that the Phillies can not go into post season with Lidge as their closer. In a one run game, he can not be counted on.
